SUNNYSIDE — Police are searching for a man who they say groped a 19-year-old woman on a neighborhood street, according to a published report.

The victim says she was walking home when the man attacked her last Wednesday around 10:50 p.m. on the corner of 41st Street and 43rd Avenue in Sunnyside, NY1 said.

According to the station, the victim said the attacker grabbed her from behind and tried to sexually assault her.

But the woman managed to escape before anything happened.

She described the attacker as 5-feet-6-inches tall, wearing a dark-colored hoodie with dark blue jeans, NY1 said.

This was not the only sexual assault in the Sunnyside area. About two months ago a man approached five other women in the neighborhood, groped them and fled, cops say, the report said.

The number of rapes in the 108th Precinct, which includes Sunnyside, saw an increase in the number of rapes so far this year with 6 compared to 4 during the same period last year, NYPD data showed.

The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment from DNAinfo.
