MANHATTAN — A homeless man was rushed to a hospital late Tuesday night after an unknown assailant beat him with a piece of wood outside St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in the Financial District, authorities said.
The victim, 28, has not been named by police.
At 11:21 p.m., emergency services responded to 22 Barclay Street, where they found that the victim had sustained head trauma, the FDNY reported. His attacker, who was also homeless, had fled the scene.
The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was in guarded condition, the NYPD said. He underwent surgery Wednesday morning.
Nobody had been arrested as of Wednesday morning.
