QUEENS — A cop was busted Tuesday morning for allegedly helping out a violent heroin ring based in Jamaica, Queens authorities said.
Devon Daniels, 30, was charged with illegally accessing an FBI computer database to feed information to Guy Curtis, the leader of the Jamaica drug ring.
Daniels, who is a uniformed patrol officer with the NYPD, was arraigned on Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn Federal Court. He was represented by his sister, Devian Daniels, an attorney.
After a hearing that lasted more than an hour, Daniels was released on bail. The $150,000 bond was signed by his parents, younger sister and fiance.
A series of text messages found on Curtis's phone led authorities to believe that Daniels was allegedly cooperating with Curtis by performing criminal background checks, obtaining license-plate information and giving Curtis information on fellow NYPD officers.
In January, Curtis pleaded guilty to heroin possession and distribution charges.
As a condition of his release, Daniels will be held under home detention and will be monitored with an electronic ankle bracelet. He will reside in his parents' home in Queens while awaiting trial.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
