BROOKLYN — An 18-year-old man was shot in the head and killed Tuesday evening in Flatlands, police said.

Tyreck Wheeler, of Brooklyn Avenue in East Flatbush, was shot just before 6:15 p.m. at Flatbush Avenue and East 36th Street, according to the FDNY and NYPD.

Neighbors were alarmed when they heard the shots ring out around dinner time.

"I heard six or seven shots," said Valenz Louissant, 21, who lives nearby and ran outside to see the commotion. "It was one after another. It was rapid."

When Louissant arrived at the scene he saw Wheeler's body.

"I saw the body was just laying there," he said.

Another witness, who declined to give his name or age, described a graphic scene following the shooting.
