GOVERNORS ISLAND — Surreal artworks — coupled with a sustainable treehouse — are bringing an unusual transformation to Governors Island this summer.

Visitors to the FIGMENT Interactive Sculpture Garden will be able to send Morse code messages, build towers out of buckets, braid artificial hair and meditate inside a reconceived Tibetan prayer wheel, organizers announced Thursday.

The 10 sculptures were chosen from nearly 50 entrants for their creativity and sustainability. They will go on display June 9 at Governors Island's Parade Grounds.

One of the most arresting designs is "Face of Liberty" by Zachary Landsberg, a full-scale replica of Lady Liberty's head, emerging face-up from the ground. Viewers will be able to approach the fiberglass sculpture and see the iconic statue from a new perspective.

Several of the works feature an online component, like "BucketCraft" by Chris Jordan, which allows visitors to build structures out of buckets. A camera posted on a pole will automatically take photos and send them to a website, creating a time-lapse archive people can check from their phones.

And in "The Circle of Intention" by Suprina, visitors can step into a hollow globe designed to inspire positive thoughts and then record their own "Statement of Intention" on a video, which will be posted online.

The one returning sculpture is "TreeHouse" by Benjamin Jones, a whimsical installation that drew crowds of adults and children alike last summer. The 375-square-foot treehouse features art installations and a slide.

FIGMENT is continuing to raise money to build the artwork.

The FIGMENT Interactive Sculpture Garden will run from June 9 to Sept. 23 whenever Governors Island is open to the public, on Saturdays, Sundays and holiday Mondays.
