THE BRONX — Orchard Beach is about to get a lot more tasty.

The Bronx-based Cuban eatery, Havana Cafe, is set to bring an army of food carts and snack stands with food themes based on the borough's fare to the park.

Three snack bars and a dozen mobile food units will open over Memorial Day weekend, with each of the snack bars having a theme based on Bronx favorites.

One will be a mini Arthur Avenue, offering classic Italian favorites like sausage and onions, pizza and veal parm.

Another will be dedicated to the seafood of City Island and a third will serve up Havana Cafe favorites like empanadas and Cuban sandwiches.

All three snack bars will also have traditional beach offerings like hamburgers, hot dogs and fries.

"We are trying to bring in what everybody thinks of about food in the Bronx," said Ruben Rodriguez, co-owner of Havana Cafe.

Twelve mobile food units will be up and ready for Memorial Day, while more elaborate carts — such as a mobile taqueria — will be rolled over the course of the summer. Rodriguez said 20 mobile units will be in full swing by the summer of 2013.

"This season will really be a test ground to see what the community responds to," he added.
