Armed Muggers Rob Couple in Central Park

MANHATTAN - A trio of young men held up a couple at gunpoint on Saturday evening in Central Park, but were nabbed minutes later by police, who recovered the stolen belongings and a weapon.

Victims called 911 from the area of 320 Central Park West last night, and said they had been mugged walking in the area of the reservoir at 9:35 p.m.

The couple, a woman, 23, and man, 22, said three men had approached them, demanding their wallets and cell phones.

One man displayed a firearm during the holdup, the victims told police. Neither victim sustained injuries from the mugging.

The suspects fled the location on foot after nabbing three cell phones and the couples' two wallets. 

Police took descriptions of the suspects from the victims, and transmitted the information over deparment radios.

Within five minutes, three men fitting the suspects' descriptions were stoppd by plain clothes officers from the Manhattan North Anti-Crime Unit.

After a positive identification was made to police, the men were arrested. 

A .380 caliber Beretta semi-automatic handgun was recovered from one of the suspect's jacket pockets in the process.

Nikki Morales, 20, and Naquan Simmons, 17, both of the Upper West Side, and Timm Darby, 16, of Harlem, were arrested and charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm) and criminal possesion of stolen property.

All men will be charged as adults.
