NEW YORK — The Big Apple was on a roll Sunday as throngs of New Yorkers took to the streets for the annual Five Boro Bike Tour.

The 40-mile trek kicked off in Lower Manhattan, plotting a course through all five boroughs, including a ferry ride back to Manhattan from Staten Island.

Several streets were expected to be closed for hours as the cyclists made their way around the city, including:

*Sixth Avenue between Franklin and West 59th Streets

*The 59th Street Bridge

*The Third Avenue Bridge

*The lower level of the Verrazano Bridge

*Bay Street between New York Avenue and Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island

The ride brought out spectators along the route.

"This is my first day in New York City and I woke up to a bike race," said Anil Kapel, 40, of Stockholm. "It's great, I love America."

Mike Bean, 38, who lives in the neighborhood, was enjoying the nice weather.

"Hey, it's a fun thing," he said. "The weather is good and everyone is enjoying themselves."
