QUEENS — An 8-year-old girl from Jamaica was killed Monday morning after she was ejected from the back seat of a vehicle that flipped over on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The crash happened near South Brunswick about 11:45 a.m. when the SUV struck a barrier and crashed in the southbound lanes of the highway, NJ.com reported.

Ayanah Paxton was reportedly helicoptered to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Her mom, Pricilla Paxton, 48, was injured while driving the vehicle and passenger Maurice Corney, 17, was also hurt, the Associated Press said.

It was not immediately clear if any of the people in the SUV were wearing seatbelts.

New Jersey State Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
