Escaped Harlem Pharmacy Suspect Arraigned on Robbery Charges

A man who escaped police during a Harlem pharmacy shootout April 12 that left his alleged partner in crime dead was arraigned on armed robbery charges Tuesday.

Police arrested Luis Hiraldo, 19, in Rhode Island early Tuesday morning, after the South Bronx native fled their after the shootout at the Rx Center Pharmacy in East Harlem. Hiraldo and alleged co-conspirator Rudolph Wyatt, 23, of East Harlem, rushed the pharmacy demanding Oxycontin, Percocet, and cash.

Hiraldo pushed three women to the floor in the pharmacy while Wyatt went behind the counter demanding cash and pills, according to the criminal complaint.

When police arrived, Hiraldo allegedly left the pharamcy with his hands in the air. Wyatt ran out after him, allegedly firing at police as he dashed across the street. In the chaos that followed, Wyatt traded gunfire with police and was shot and killed. Hiraldo took advantage of the chaos to get away.

Hiraldo was remanded by a judge and is currently being held at the Manhattan Detention Complex Downtown, according to the Department of Correction. He is due to return to court April 30.
