BOROUGH PARK — A fire ripped through a home at 38th Street house Wednesday morning — accidentally ignited when the elderly home owners were cooking chicken, fire officials and the couple said.

The blaze sparked at 1250 38th Street about 9:45 a.m. after Mary Avhevarria, 82, and her husband, Raymond, 80, had some chicken in a pot in their kitchen.

"My husband was cooking chicken and he went inside," Mary Avhevarria said. "The kitchen caught fire."

Sixty firefighters responded to the scene and had the blaze out by 10:30 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

No one was injured, he added.

The elderly couple, who have lived there for 60 years, managed to escape.

"We ran out," Mary Avhevarria said. "Everything went up in flames."

The FDNY would not confirm that the chicken started the fire. A spokesman said the cause was under investigation.
