MANHATTAN — When a straphanger began masturbating as he stared at a woman on a Manhattan-bound L train last week just before the evening rush, she turned the tables by snapping his picture on her cellphone, police said.

Now cops are using that photo to hunt down the alleged lewd rider.

Police said the suspect boarded the L train on April 18 at the Montrose Avenue stop in Brooklyn and pleasured himself as he stared at the 34-year-old victim before exiting at Union Square at roughly 4:30 p.m.

The suspect is described as being 20 to 25 years old, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with navy blue jogging pants and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.  All calls are strictly confidential.
