Thief Swiped Wallet and Cell Phone from Purse in Canarsie Diner, Police Say

MANHATTAN — Police are asking the public's help in finding a man who rummaged through a purse in a Canarsie diner last month, stealing a wallet and a cell phone.

The man, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and glasses, dipped into the purse at the Richards Diner at East 95th Street and Avenue L around 2:40 p.m. on Sun., March 25, 2012, cops said.

Police described the man as in his 20s, having a dark complexion and weighing approximately 170 poumds.

The NYPD asks anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-877-TIPS.  The public can also submit information through the Crime Stoppers website or by texting 274637 and then entering TIP577.
