MANHATTAN — New Yorkers are showing Christ-like love for new Jets back-up quarterback Tim Tebow, even though they think he should play second string to Mark Sanchez, a new poll says.

A survey of football fans by Quinnipiac University found that 56 percent approved of Gang Green acquiring the pious player, and 60 percent have a favorable impression of Tebow.

"This may not seem like the ideal place for a born-again Christian, but most New Yorkers have a favorable opinion of the new back-up quarterback," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Despite their embrace of Tebow, most grid iron fans — 61 percent — still list Sanchez as their top choice to be the Jets quarterback, according to the poll.

On Easter Sunday the new Jet got a shout-out from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who told a packed service of 3,000 at St. Patrick's Cathedral that he was jealous of Tebow because he reportedly drew 15,000 worshipers to an Easter service in Georgetown, Tex.
