MIDTOWN — It's a bird! It's a plane! It's the hottest attraction at this year’s International Auto Show.
The "Back to the Future" style Transition has fold-up, 26-foot wings that transform it from a plane into a vehicle that can reach 70 mph on the highway and will even fit into a garage.
Made by Massachusetts company Terrafugia, it costs $279,000.
Alongside the futuristic flying machine at the New York International Auto Show, which starts Friday at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, are 1,000 cars that are expected to be seen by more than 1 million visitors.
They include the BMW i8, a sports car-hybrid combination which, according to its maker, goes from 0 to 62 mph in under 5 seconds and gets 94 miles per gallon.
Other car manufacturers expected to draw crowds are Mercedes Benz, Acura and Rolls-Royce, which will unveil some new designs.
The show is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It closes on April 15.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12.
The Javits Center is located on 11th Avenue at 34th Street.
