BROOKLYN — A wood chipper hitched to a truck snapped off and careened into two cars in Midwood Monday morning, officials and the truck's driver said.

The truck was headed east on Flatlands Avenue about 8:20 a.m. when the wood chipper, attached to the back of the truck, came loose. The chipper then smashed into a westbound car and a parked vehicle on Flatlands Avenue near East 106th Street.

One person suffered a minor injury and was taken to Brookdale Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

"Something broke from the hitch, and it came loose," said the driver, Mariano Delcid, 33. "The piece that connects to the chipper, it broke in the middle."

The company that owns the truck, A1 All Counties Tree Service, did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
