MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — A man with a long rap sheet was indicted for a vicious sexual attack on a 36-year-old woman at a Lower East Side subway station last month, prosecutors said Wednesday.
Michael Torres, 29, allegedly threw the victim onto the tracks after holding a screwdriver to her neck and choking her on Feb. 8 at about 12:30 a.m.
Prosecutors said he then hopped down onto the tracks himself, dragged her further into the tunnel and tried to rape her, prosecutors said.
During the brutal assault he allegedly grabbed her by the hair and smacked her head against the tracks and a concrete wall.
Torres, who has nearly 30 prior arrests for drugs, robbery and other crimes, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court Wednesday.
He is charged with predatory sexual assault, attempted rape and other related charges. He faces up to 25 years to life in prison if convicted on the top count.
