Brooklyn Bridge Reopened After Crane Crashed into Scaffolding

MANHATTAN — The Brooklyn Bridge has reopened to traffic after a tugboat carrying a crane crashed into scaffolding on the span’s underside late Tuesday, authorities said.

The landmark bridge’s Manhattan-bound traffic lanes were closed following the incident at 8 p.m. Tuesday night when the crane ripped through scaffolding installed beneath the bridge, fire officials said.

Traffic resumed about 11 p.m. Tuesday, with the lanes fully open for rush hour Wednesday morning, Coast Guard and Department of Transportation officials said.

The Coast Guard is currently investigating the incident and will determine if any criminality is involved.
