MANHATTAN — A worker doing routine lighting maintenance on the RFK Bridge at Wards Island was rescued by firefighters after being stuck roughly 85 feet in the air for nearly an hour Tuesday, FDNY and bridge officials said.

The worker was inside the bucket of a platform truck that was fully extended at the Wards Island anchorage of the bridge when the equipment broke down about 2 p.m., bridge officials said.

Firefighters from Ladder 14 ultimately brought the worker down to safety. The man was not injured, FDNY officials said.
