HARLEM — A fire broke out at a dilapidated Madison Avenue building late Thursday — the second blaze at that location this week, fire officials said.
The fire began just after 8:30 p.m. in the basement of 1992 Madison Avenue, FDNY officials said. It quickly escalated to a second-alarm fire, requiring 20 units and nearly 80 firefighters to battle it.
The fire took an hour to get under control, officials said.
Its cause was under investigation.
The blaze was the second time firefighters were called to 1992 Madison Avenue this week. On Tuesday, a mattress caught fire at 6:30 a.m., officials said.
The cause of that fire was unknown, too, but a neighbor said squatters have been living in the building.
An FDNY spokesman said there were no known link between the fires.
