MANHATTAN — Burger buzz has been swirling for months about the opening of a fourth Manhattan location of 5 Napkin Burger in Union Square. The wait ended Monday.
At 5 p.m., the new spot finally swung open its doors on East 14th Street near Third Avenue.
In honor of the grand opening, the restaurant was reportedly offering 14-cent wings and three new burger options, including the avocado-ranch burger, the barbecue burger and the mushroom blue cheese burger.
Those options accent the other menu staples, including the cheddar bacon burger, the ahi tuna burger and the signature 5 Napkin Burger — a 10-ounce patty of fresh ground beef topped with Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions and a rosemary aioli.
Winick Realty Group first announced that 5 Napkin Burger had signed a lease for 3,570 square feet of space at that location early in 2011.
“5 Napkin Burger will undertake a full reconstruction of the building and turn it into a wonderful gem,” Winick Realty Group’s Tatiana Jung-Voevodina told the New York Observer this past February.
In January of this year, members of Community Board 3 approved a request from the owners of 5 Napkin Burger for a sidewalk café at the Union Square location, Eater NY reported.
Then, late last week, Robert Guarino, one of the owners of 5 Napkin Burger, tweeted good news for fans of the chain’s gargantuan patties: “Nothin left to do 4 @5napkinburger union square but taste cocktails and draft beers.”
So far, that news has prompted eager customers to salivate via social media. One man on Facebook promised to visit the Union Square location every week. A woman who attended an intimate friends-and-family tasting last week raved about the food, service and atmosphere, claiming “everything was AMAZING!”
