BRONX — A 65-year-old man was killed when a fire broke out in Williamsbridge early Friday, police and fire officials said.

Tyril Royer was in his third-floor apartment at 686 East 234th Street when the blaze began about 12:50 a.m., FDNY officials said. He was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Another resident and a firefighter were taken to Jacobi Medical Center with minor injuries, fire officials said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in the five-story building about 1:30 a.m.

Fire marshals were investigating the caues of the fire and were looking at overloaded extension cords as a possible cause.
