Firefighter Injured in East 104th Street Apartment Blaze

EAST HARLEM — A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze that broke out on the 20th floor of an East Harlem building Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

The firefighter suffered minor injuries while trying to put out the fire in a studio apartment on the top floor of the Gaylord White Houses, 2029 Second Ave. at East 104th Street, said FDNY Battalion Chief John Hilley.

The blaze started just after noon Friday and was brought under control in about half an hour, Hilley said.

No civilians were injured, but the apartment where the fire started had water and smoke damage, Hilley said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear. 

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze at 2029 Second Ave. under control Feb. 10, 2012.
