Elderly Man Struck and Killed by Merceds in Astoria

QUEENS — An elederly man was struck and killed by a car in Astoria Tuesday evening, police said.

The victim, 89, was struck by a 2008 Mercedes near 31st Street and 21st Avenue at roughly 6 p.m., police and fire officials said. 

He was taken to Mount Sinai Queens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver, 67, remained on the scene and was taken into police custody with charges pending, the NYPD said.
