BRONX — A construction worker at a water treatment plant in the Bronx suffered serious injuries when he took a fall at the site, officials said.
The worker fell roughly 18 feet into a "confined space" at 3701 Jerome Ave. in the Woodlawn section about 9 a.m., fire officials said, where the city's Department of Environmental Protection is building the Croton filtration plant four-stories underneath a golf course.
Paramedics rushed the worker, who was not identified, to St. Barnabas Hospital. DEP officials said the worker, employed by a contractor at the site appeared to have injured his leg.
When the $3 billion filtration plant is completed, along with five dams being rebuilt in the Croton watershed in Westchester, the Croton system will be able to provide up to 30 percent of the city's drinking water, DEP officials said.
