MANHATTAN — A new interactive city map allows New Yorkers to view road closures without having to find out the hard way.

NYC Street Closures, which the city launched Tuesday, maps out planned street closures due to construction work and events like parades using an interactive display. Users can search by date, time and location, with closures posted up to months in advance.

“We all know how frustrating it can be to wake up and find your street has been unexpectedly blocked off for a street fair, a parade or any other event," said East Side City Councilman Dan Garodnick, who authored the bill creating the map.

"The least we can do is make sure that New Yorkers know in advance what is happening out there."

The map, which stems from City Council Speaker Christine Quinn’s last State of the City address, will also add information about film shoots and parking regulations later this year.

A similar 311 map launched by the city last year logs complaints about everything from pigeon poop to malfunctioning fire hydrants by address.
