OPENINGS:

GQ's pop-up shop GQ at Park & Bond is open for business in the Meatpacking District. This magazine come-to-life showcases GQ's "Best Stuff of the Year," including sleek cordless phones by Punkt and Warstic brand custom-made baseball bats, according to the store's website. The shop at 414 W. 14th St. is run in partnership with the online men's store Park & Bond, which seeks to embody "the mix of classic and contemporary that defines men's style right now." The shop will be open seven days-a-week through Dec. 18, with the exception of Dec. 12 and 13.

Urban-dwellers gained a new place to buy gear for sojourns outside the city on Dec. 2, when sporting goods store REI opened its first Manhattan location. The 35,000-square-foot flagship store, which DNAinfo got a preview of in late November, pays homage to the long history of the Puck Building, its 303 Lafayette St. location. REI kicked off its grand opening with giveaways on Dec. 2, 3 and 4. The store will have a full calendar of events and classes, including on how to snowshoe.

ON THE HORIZON:

The home of former West 12th Street club and neighborhood restaurant the Beatrice Inn will soon be revived with the help of restauranteur and Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. As Grub Street first reported, Carter is listed as the principal on an application for a liquor license at the 285 W. 12th St. restaurant. Co-owner Emil Varda told Eater that the as-of-yet-unnamed 90-seat restaurant will serve comfort food and that renovations will "save as much of the old and original pieces as we can." The Beatrice, whose patrons included the Olsen twins, Heath Ledger and Kate Moss, closed in April 2009 following community complaints about excessive noise and overcrowding.

The Montreal Jewish deli-inspired Brooklyn restaurant Mile End has already charmed diners with its take on smoked meat platters and the gravy-covered french fries known as poutine. Mile End, which is named after a neighborhood in Montreal, plans to open a NoHo outpost at 53 Bond St. early next year, owner Noah Bernamoff said. Mile End Sandwich will be a quick-service version of its Brooklyn sister restaurant. Its owners hit a roadblock Thursday night, when Community Board 2's State Liquor Authority committee voted against the new restaurant's application to serve beer and wine, according to Grub Street. Locals worried that the sandwich joint would create a noise problem.
