Muppets Take Manhattan With New Movie

By Andrea Swalec | November 25, 2011 5:45pm

GREENWICH VILLAGE — Black Friday deals have got nothing on "The Muppets."

Many families opted to spend the day after Thanksgiving seeing Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and Animal in the latest Muppets movie that hit theaters on Wednesday.

A Brooklyn dad who took his young sons to Regal Union Square Stadium 14 at 850 Broadway said the film brought back memories.

"I started tearing up when they played the 'Rainbow Connection,' my favorite song from the original movie," said Brendon, who declined to provide his last name. "I was glad they got a chance to see it."

His sons, Liam and Sean, agreed that Kermit was their favorite Muppet.

Glen Hyde of Brooklyn said he liked the film's many cameo stars, including Whoopi Goldberg, Neil Patrick Harris and Dave Grohl of The Foo Fighters.

"They really updated it and there were tons of stars in it that you didn't know were going to be in it," Hyde said.

The film stars "How I Met Your Mother" funny man Jason Segel, the ever-wholesome Amy Adams and a new Muppet named Walter, who is Segel's character's brother.

Walter and crew help get the Muppets back together to put on a benefit concert when an oil baron named Tex Richman threatens to raze the Muppet Theater after discovering oil beneath it.

Eleni Myers of Brooklyn said she loved the film and sang the "Mah Na Mah Na" song for DNAinfo.
