MANHATTAN — The NYPD is beefing up security on the subway after a 16 percent increase this year in thefts from trains, the New York Post reported Monday.

The number of undercover police in the subway system is expected to double. Some of the officers will reportedly act like typical victims on trains — people noticeably drunk or napping.

Subway robbers have targeted people with electronic gadgets like iPods and iPhones.

The officers are reportedly going through a five-day training session for the assignment.
