Armed Robbers Flee Harlem Store After Workers Fight Back

By Ben Fractenberg | October 31, 2011 8:46am

HARLEM — Police are hunting two men who allegedly tried to rob a Harlem store at gunpoint — but ran off when workers fought back.

The men walked into Touba Electronics at 131 West 116 on Saturday at 7:45 p.m. Police said one pulled out a gold firearm and yelled, "Give me the money!" to an employee in the back of the store.

The second suspect stayed near the front of the store and pointed a gun at a second victim.

But the employee at the rear of the store struggled with the robber, whose gun went off without hitting anybody, police said.

At the front of the store, the other worker grabbed the intruder's gun and both suspects then fled without getting any money.

The suspects are described as light skinned black or Hispanic men, 17-22 years old.

Anyone with information about this incident can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
