GRAMERCY — Vibrant costumes and classic cars took over Madison Avenue on Sunday as the Mexican Independence Day Parade made its way through Gramercy.

The 18th Annual parade kicked off at noon with a number of Mariachi bands and dance groups performing along the route, which started at 38th Street and stretched south to 26th Street.

The Mexican War of Independence began on Sept. 16, 1810 and is observed as a national holiday there.

An estimated 300,000 attend the yearly parade in Manhattan, though this year’s official attendance numbers were not immediately available.
