MANHATTAN — The New York flashmob scene will get a touch of class on Thursday, as a popular French spectacle makes its American debut.

A far cry from the pants-less pranks we know and love, 1,000 diners, dressed entirely in formal white attire, will gather for an upscale feast to take place at an undisclosed outdoor location within the city, according to the event’s Facebook page.

Participants in the event, called “Dîner en Blanc,” will be notified “at the last minute” of the secret location, at which point they will descend with dining tables and edibles in tow.

“The ‘Dîner en Blanc’ recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event,” a description on the Facebook page explained.

“Dîner en Blanc” was held at two locations -- the Louvre Pyramid and the Esplanade de Notre-Dame -- in Paris earlier this year.

Diners are encouraged to conduct themselves with “the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette.”

Past dinners have been held at Paris’s Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Pyramid and the Esplanade de Notre-Dame, according to the web page. Lyon, Amsterdam, Munich, Zurich, Berlin, and Montreal have also played host to the massive dinner party, which boasted nearly 12,000 guests in Paris earlier this year, according to the New York Times.

Thursday’s "Dîner en Blanc" will be the first in the U.S., the Facebook page noted.
