CHINATOWN — Tennis champion Li Na has canceled her planned visit to Chinatown Monday.

The French Open winner, who was scheduled to participate in an event with local youth at Sara D. Roosevelt Park on Monday afternoon, was forced to scratch her appearance due to her competition schedule leading up to the US Open, according to the US Tennis Association.

Her visit was to coincide with the USTA's Mobile SmashZone, which includes a kid-sized court for children to play on as part of an initiative to encourage children younger than 10 to take up tennis.

Qualifying matches for the US Open kick off on Tuesday, with first-round action set to being next week.
