EAST VILLAGE — Hotelier Andre Balazs is reportedly taking over the beleaguered Cooper Square Hotel.

Balazs, who owns the High Line-straddling Standard Hotel in the Meatpacking District and its affiliated properties in Los Angeles and Miami, may take control of the towering East Fifth Street inn as early as September 1, HotelChatter reported.

A rep for Balazs did not immediately return a request for comment.

Last year, a plan by owners of the SoHo and TriBeCa Grand Hotels to buy the 21-story building fell through, before a lender stepped in for a debt-restructuring deal.

Balazs had previously been named as a potential buyer of the Hotel Chelsea. He most recently launched a seaplane service that flies passengers from Manhattan to the Hamptons.
