BATTERY PARK CITY — The new Asphalt Green community center in Battery Park City has already begun signing up members, though it won't open for another few months.
The fitness nonprofit launched a membership office Thursday to share details of the new 52,000-square-foot facility at North End Avenue and Murray Street.
The $55 million community center, in the base of Milstein Properties' Liberty Luxe and Liberty Green rental towers at 212 North End Ave., will feature a six-lane, competition-length pool, a warmer teaching pool, a full-court gym, exercise and free-weight equipment, a 156-seat theater, a culinary center and six classrooms.
The community center is scheduled to open before the end of the year, but a spokeswoman said it was too soon to give an exact date.
Membership will start at $105 per month for an individual, plus a $199 initiation fee, the spokeswoman said. A family with two adults and two children will pay $175, plus a $299 initiation fee.
Asphalt Green will also offer a limited number of discounted charter memberships that eliminate the initiation fee and reduce the monthly fee by up to $20 per month, the spokeswoman said.
Members will receive free, unlimited access to the gym, pool and some exercise classes, though they may have to pay for other classes. The Asphalt Green spokeswoman said staff would release more details in the fall.
All those who sign up before the facility opens will have 10 days following the opening to change their mind and get a full refund, the spokeswoman said.
Asphalt Green is already running outdoor boot camp and running skills classes in Battery Park City in advance of the bricks-and-mortar opening.
Asphalt Green's new membership office is located in the Verdesian at 211 North End Ave., across the street from the future center, and is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.
