DOWNTOWN — The 9/11 Memorial and Museum got a splash of color this weekend as workers began laying grass, a Port Authority spokeswoman said.

Workers started to install the plush green turf on the southwest side of the eight-acre plaza on Saturday.

The highly-anticipated memorial will be unveiled for victims' families on the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks next month at a ceremony that will feature readings by President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush.

More than 200,000 tickets to the memorial were reserved for the days following the opening, prompting organizers to release additional passes.

The memorial, which features bronze footprints of the Twin Towers, etched with the names of victims from the attack, opens to the public on September 12, 2011.
