MANHATTAN — The Long Island Railroad evening commute was snarled Monday after a bolt of lightning struck the tracks on Monday.
After the lightning struck just before 5 p.m. Monday, service was temporarily suspended on the Ronkonkoma, Huntington/Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Hempstead Branches, the MTA said on its website. All of the lines except Oyster Bay were restored by 5:15 p.m. Monday, with residual delays, the MTA said.
Westbound Service between Penn Station and Jamaica was also temporarily suspended. The MTA is cross-honoring Long Island Railroad fares for westbound customers.
An MTA spokesman said it was not immediately clear when service between Penn Station and Jamaica would be restored.
