WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A neighborhood man was shot and killed early Monday in Washington Heights, police said.

Police found Humberto Alvarado, 39, with gunshot wounds to the torso and abdomen after being called to El Rey de la Paella restaurant at 558 W. 181st St. at 2:26 a.m.

Alvarado was taken to Harlem Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

No arrests had been made by Monday morning, according to police.

Investigators were on scene at the restaurant Monday.

A man who identified himself as Alvarado's cousin said he was shocked to hear of the shooting.

"He was a very good guy," he said while at Alvarado's family home on West 181st Street. "Never got into trouble before.''
Neighbors said they have complained of a raucuous atmosphere at the location since the beginning of the summer, but said they were surprised to hear of violence on the street.

"I've been living here for twelve years and nothing like this happens before," said a woman who lives above the restaurant and asked to remain anonymous.
