MANHATTAN — A tour bus bound for New York City crashed upstate early Friday morning, killing the driver of a tractor-trailer that collided with the coach.
The fiery wreck, which occurred in Waterloo, N.Y. halfway between Syracuse and Rochester about 1:30 a.m., injured 30 of the 53 bus passengers — including two critically — ABC News reported.
The bus was reportedly headed from Ontario, Canada, to the city for a three-day tour, when it stopped on the side of I-90, according to Reuters.
When the coach tried to pull back onto the road, it was rear-ended by the truck, according to the report.
The truck driver, identified as Timothy Hume, 59, of Michigan, died in wreck, ABC reported.
A U.S. Army sergeant who was driving behind the vehicles at the time of the crash helped pull passengers from the flaming wreckage, WSYR-9 reported.
A spokesman from the State Police Department could not be reached for comment.
