MANATTAN — A woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger on the Upper East Side early Wednesday morning — the latest in a string of sex attacks across the borough, according to officials.
Police sources said that the 31-year-old victim was followed into a building near East 85th Street and East End Avenue — just blocks from Gracie Mansion — around 12:30 a.m.
There, a 25-year-old man, a stranger, sexually assaulted her, according to the sources.
No arrests have been made, police said.
The attack is the latest in a string of sex assaults committed by strangers around the city in recent weeks.
In June, a 25-year-old woman narrowly escaped being sexually assaulted on East 90th Street and Lexington Avenue.
In late May, an 85-year-old woman was sexually attacked and robbed on East 83rd Street and Madison Avenue. A suspect in that case, Jeffrey Ritter, 32 of Brooklyn, was charged.
And later that month, a 20-year-old woman was attacked at 75th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side.
Also in June, three women were sexually assaulted over the course of one weekend in Washington Heights and Inwood.
One of the alleged attackers, Ray Diaz, was arrested for attacking a 37-year-old woman in her building on 192nd Street and Broadway on June 11.
