WASHINGTON HEIGHTS - A young woman was struck by an SUV on a Washington Heights street Thursday, authorities and witnesses said.

The accident unfolded on W. 158th Street and Broadway at 5:40 p.m., according to the FDNY.

The woman, in her 20s, was breathing and awake after the accident and was taken to Harlem Hospital.

"We heard a big bang and then saw the girl on the ground," said Marcus Hall, a neighbor.

Cops interviewed the driver, but it was not immediately clear whether any criminality was suspected.

Fire Department vehicles respond to the scene.
