MANHATTAN — Central Park Zoo's beloved polar bear Ida died on Friday after suffering cancer related liver problems, according to a report.
The 25-year-old fixture was euthanized to put her out of her suffering, the Daily News reported.
Her death left her partner Gus devastated, visitors and zoo staff told the paper.
Alan Miller, visiting from Texas, told the News, "We used to see him playing with a ball, but today he just stayed away from everybody."
"Ida was a great ambassador for all polar bears," the zoo's director, Jeff Sailer, told the News.
"She was truly a wonderful animal and will be missed every day by our staff and guests."
Born in Buffalo, Ida has been at Central Park since 1987.
