MANHATTAN — A fire in a downtown cafe left Maiden Lane full of smoke Friday morning.

The street was closed to westbound traffic between Pearl and Williams streets. Firefighters evacuated all of the building's 12 floors.

Fire officials said the blaze started when grease in the exhaust vents at the Lane Cafe ignited shortly after 10 a.m.

A witness said the area was full of smoke.

"It doesn't look serious, but there's a lot of smoke coming from the cafe," said the worker at a neighboring restaurant.

The FDNY said nobody was hurt.

The Lane Cafe calls itself Downtown's premier deli.
