WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Being sick shouldn't stop you from enjoying a real high school prom.
Teens recovering from heart transplants and other serious ailments got some relief and fun courtesy of Washington Heights' Presbyterian-Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital on Saturday night.
More than 100 hospitalized, disabled and recovering teens and pre-teens attended the hospital’s "Red Carpet Affair Patient Prom," complete with red carpet, dinner and dance floor, New York 1 reported.
"We've got children here today, young people who are very ill. Some of them might not even make it to stay through the prom, that's how tentative it is," children’s hospital Dr. Herbert Pardes told the station.
The teens said the event helped them take their minds off of their difficult medical situations.
"No matter how hard things look, you can always cover the hard things with a smile," 14-year-old Johendy Peralta, who has had two heart transplants, told NY1.
