MANHATTAN — Riders on the 7 train will have to cope with a service cut this weekend — but the Metropolitan Transportation Authority promises the break will help resolve a recent spike in signal-related delays.
Trains will not run between Times Square and Queensboro Plaza from May 20 through May 23, the MTA announced Wednesday.
The idea behind the temporary service cut is to give the MTA an opportunity to resolve programs caused by water damage and an aging signal system in the tunnel connecting Grand Central Terminal to the Vernon-Jackson Avenues stop in Long Island City.
The MTA will also halt service on the No. 7 train during the weekends of June 24-27 and July 29-Aug. 1.
Commuters are advised to use the E, N, R and F trains for travel between the two boroughs, the MTA said.
