MANHATTAN — ¡Que viva Mexico!
Celebrations of the Cinco de Mayo holiday, which marks the 1862 victory of Mexican forces against French troops at the Battle of Puebla, start Thursday and will stretch into the weekend with festivals, parades and parties.
Cinco de Mayo at Grand Central Station
Revelers can visit this street fair featuring Mexican food and other treats Friday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fair will be held on 43rd Street between Lexington and Third Avenues.
Cinco de Mayo Mexican Parade
Enjoy the music and dancing of Mexico with the Cinco de Mayo Parade Sunday, May 8 on Central Park West between 97th and 110th Streets. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m.
The Harlem Education Activities Fund Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
To party for a good cause, celebrate the holiday with HEAF, a group dedicated to providing after-school tutoring and mentoring to under-served students. Tickets for the dinner and party at the Union Square Ballroom May 5 run from $50 to $100 with all proceeds benefiting the program.
Irving Plaza Party
Go all out with dancing and drink specials on Thursday at the Irving Plaza club at 17 Irving Plaza near Union Square. Tickets start at $20 and specials include $2 beers, $3 margaritas and $4 tequila shots.
All those pub crawls
Bars around Manhattan, including Hudson Terrace at West 46th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues and Village Pourhouse on 11th Street and Third Avenue, feature drink specials in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
