MANHATTAN — Commuters heading home to Long Island can expect delays during the Monday evening rush hour, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.

The LIRR will have delays due to an Amtrak track condition in one of the East River tunnels, according to the MTA.

Commuters can expect 15 to 20 minute delays, a MTA spokesman said. But they are hoping extra Passover trains run between 2-4 will ease congestion somewhat.

As an alternative to using Penn Station, people can take a subway to Jamaica, Queens, to catch an eastbound train.

Commuters can get updates at www.mta.info or call the LIRR’s Travel Information Center at 718-217-5477 (718-217-LIRR).

The track conditions are expected be cleared up by the morning commute, the spokesman said.
