MIDTOWN — Plans to expand an exclusive Midtown nightclub have been given Community Board 5's blessing.
The proposals to build onto Lavo, on East 58th Street at Madison Avenue, are intended to provide extra space that will keep revellers from lining up on the street as they wait behind the velvet rope.
The popular Italian restaurant, lounge and nightclub, which was opened by the creators of TAO, frequently attracts long lines of party-goers hoping to gain entry.
"Waiting in line outside is like waiting to get your acceptance letter to college or something," wrote one user on Yelp.
To help keep up with demand and ease congestion on the street, owner Paul Goldstein said the restaurant wants to expand its ground-floor eatery, adding 550 square feet for a new bar, 30 to 40 new seats and a new waiting space where those hoping to gain entry can wait.
