MANHATTAN — A New York star was hatched at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Flamboyant singer Lady Gaga made a grand entrance on-stage at the Grammy Awards in a giant iridescent egg. The Upper East Side native arrived to the Staples Center in the egg before being "reborn" on stage during her performance.

Gaga took home awards for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. She thanked her parents, sister and superstar Whitney Houston during her acceptance speech, saying Houston's talent gave her confidence to write and perform "Born This Way," a song written to inspire bullied gay teens.

However, the "Mother Monster" may have been upstaged by an unlikely duet between actress Gwyneth Paltrow and singer Cee Lo Green. Paltrow and Green got the crowd going when they performed the controversial hit song "Forget You" alongside some puppet back up singers.

Green rocked out on the piano while wearing over-sized sunglasses and a giant, colorful bird costume reminiscent of a Mardi Gras Indian. Paltrow, who performed a single from her movie "Country Strong" at the Country Music Awards last month, added some heat to the performance in a low cut black body suit with high heels.

Lady Antebellum, the harmony-based Nashville trio, was the night's biggest winner with five Grammy Awards.

New York City's newest anthem, "Empire State of Mind," was also a big winner for Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. The song won awards for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song.

Rapper Eminem, who was nominated for 10 Grammys, took home awards for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Album. The Detroit native continued the night's string of rousing performances by wowing the crowd in duets with Rhianna and Dr. Dre.

Tween heartthrob Justin Beiber teamed up with Usher and Jaden Smith in an onstage performance that, of course, went over huge with Beiber's faithful online fans.

"The Justin Bieber Usher and Jaden was the BEST performance yet!!!" @CarlieMeade tweeted.

Usher, who also performed his solo hit "OMG," took home Grammy awards for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B album. Bieber, whose biopic film "Never Say Never" made $30 million over the weekend, lost out in Best New Artist category to Jazz singer Esperanza Spalding.

Spalding's victory wasn't the only upset of the night. The Canadian rock band Arcade Fire took home the Album of the Year award for "The Suburbs," beating out favorites Katy Perry, Eminem and Lady Gaga to snag the night's biggest honor.
