MANHATTAN — Mayor Michael Bloomberg's 8,500-square foot Beaux Arts townhouse on the Upper East Side may not be the gilded masterpiece one might think New York's 10th richest man would call home: his elevator has been rated "unsatisfactory" five times in the last 10 years, the Daily News reported Thursday.
He received two violations from the Department of Buildings for his elevator.
One violation, from 2007 for "failure to maintain elevator", was resolved without penalty or fine, according to DOB records. Another given late last year for not getting his annual inspection was actually given erroneously and will be dismissed, a DOB spokesman told the News.
It was apparently a "computer glitch" that affected the roughly 600 New Yorkers, like Bloomberg, with elevators in their homes, the spokesman told the paper.
It doesn't look like the Buildings Department will be shutting down the mayor's swanky dinner parties at his East 79th Street abode anytime soon though.
"Unsatisfactory does not mean unsafe," the DOB spokesman said of the elevator grades. "Unsatisfactory refers to housekeeping conditions and maintenance."
Bloomberg's spokesman told the paper: "The mayor meets or exceeds all safety standards."
